List of Hospitals and Physicians
St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital - 130 Parade Street. Tel: 227-2072/5
This hospital offers basic coronary/intensive care and medical/surgical care. It also offers Radiology services such as diagnostic ultrasonography and MRI. It operates at a capacity of one hundred and twenty-four beds (124) beds and has a 24-hour emergency room (ER). The Embassy has historically used this hospital for referrals.
Public Hospital Georgetown Corporation (PHGC) - New Market Street. Tel: 227-8232/8204-9
This is the largest hospital in Georgetown with a capacity of 600 beds but is currently operating at 400 beds. The hospital has very high turnover of medical staff and trained personnel. The Ambulatory Care and Diagnostic Center is well equipped and consists of an ER, a six-suite Operating Room (OR) and an eight-bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The hospital operates a country-wide ambulance service. The emergency surgical team is the most experienced in-country because it sees most of the trauma cases. The high staff turnover has had an obvious impact on the quality of nursing care.

This is the newest hospital in town with twenty-four 24 beds and specialty care in obstetrics and gynecology, general medicine and surgery. It offers a range of out-patient diagnostic services and clinics, and 24-hour OR/ER services. This hospital can be used for obstetrical emergencies.
Davis Memorial Hospital - 121 Durban Backlands. Tel: 227-2041-3
This is a small hospital offering medical/surgical, dental, and obstetric and gynecology care. The hospital now has an ambulance service which functions mainly for routine transport of patients and a mobile medical clinic. The Chief Medical Officer at this hospital, who is a U.S licensed Family Physician, is Post Medical Advisor to the Embassy.

Georgetown Medical Center (PRASAD’S) - 258/59 Thomas & Middle Streets. Tel: 226-7210/9
This is a 72- bed hospital with a 24-hour ER Service, intensive care unit and other outpatient services.

The following list of health care providers has been compiled by the Health Unit. Practitioners are included in this list after review by the Regional Medical Officer or Foreign Service Health Practitioner. The doctors on this list generally have been trained overseas, are familiar with American medical care, and have a reasonable command of English.
The list is not meant to be exhaustive or definitive nor does it represent either a guarantee of competence or endorsement by the Department of State or the American Embassy. Inclusion indicates that these health care providers have been utilized by the American community in the past.
Retention on this list depends on a combination of factors including availability, training, and positive assistance in previous consultations etc. Patient feedback, both positive and negative, regarding their experience with local health care providers, is always welcome and provides additional information to assist in expanding or contracting the following list.
