Six Community-Based Organizations Receive Grants from US Embassy

The US Ambassador’s Self Help Program assists small grassroots, community-run projects in the local communities across Guyana.  In 2008, six grant applications emerged successful after the review process.  Ambassador Robinson officiated at the grant signing ceremony on Friday, February 22.  The U.S. Embassy wishes to congratulate the following organizations for their commitment to reduce poverty by addressing basic human needs and improving the essential economic and social conditions of these communities and /or villages.

1) For the Kids Sake Foundation –Creating a youth friendly space in the One Mile, Wismar, Linden area

2) Free and Easy Cane Farmers Marketing Society – Expanding farming and improving production of the farms in the Free and Easy, West Bank Demerara community.

3)  Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre – Enhancing the knowledge and skills of children and adults in the Ruimveldt/Riverview Community.

4) Parika/Mora Adult & Youth Community Development Action Group – provide washroom facilities for children enrolled at the Parika/Salem primary and secondary schools.

5) Three Brothers Community Group – Purchasing farming equipment for the Three Brothers community, allowing the community group to satisfy orders for their value-added products. 

6) Family Research Programme of Guyana (FRP) – Aimed at equipping family and community members with skills that will assist in addressing the social issues faced by persons with disabilities.
