Police certificates are required for each visa applicant who is 16 years or older.
Note: Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.
Police certificates are required from the following countries:
Country of nationality… If you lived there for six or more months after attaining the age of 16.
Country of current residence… If you have been living there for six or more months after attaining the age of 16.
Country of previous residence… If you lived there for twelve or more months after attaining the age of 16.
Any country… If you have been arrested for any reason, regardless of how long you lived there.
The police certificate must:
• Cover the entire period of the applicant’s residence in that area.
• State what the appropriate police authorities’ records show concerning each applicant, including any and all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each case of which there is a record.
• Police certificates from certain countries are unavailable. More specific information is available from the nearest United States immigrant visa processing post.

POLICE CERTIFICATES
Police certificates are required from every visa applicant aged 16 years or over for each locality of the country of the applicant's nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen. Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year. Generally, application for such certificates should be made directly to police authorities in the district in which you resided. If you have any questions about where or how to apply for police certificates in other countries, you may communicate directly with the U.S. consular office processing your visa applications.
