Non-Immigrant Visa Interview Procedures

October 24, 2006

Q: How early should I arrive for my Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) appointment?
Applicants will receive an appointment scheduled for 7:30, 8:30 or 9:30 AM as indicated on the appointment date given by Citizen Bank. You should arrive no more than fifteen minutes before your appointment time. You will not be admitted to the Embassy any earlier than fifteen minutes prior to this time.

Q: What if I am running late for my appointment?
The U.S. Embassy understands that unforeseen circumstances arise which may cause you to be late for your NIV appointment. However, applicants who are more than fifteen minutes late may be asked to reschedule. If you are running very late, we advise you to proceed to the bank to reschedule your appointment.

Q: If my appointment time is 8:30 AM, will I be interviewed at exactly that time?
The scheduled appointment time indicates the time at which you will be admitted to the Embassy. Once inside, you will present your documents to an intake clerk for data entry. After that point, you can expect to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours to be interviewed by a consular officer. The wait time depends on staffing constraints and workload.

Q: I am bound to get hungry after a long wait. Can I bring food inside the Embassy?
Unfortunately, the Embassy does not permit food or drink to be brought inside. However, there is a vendor who sells a variety of snacks and drinks mid-morning within the Embassy waiting area. Please feel free to patronize this vendor, as long as you consume the goods before entering the Embassy building.
