Karen Lynn Williams

Karen Lynn Williams assumed the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy Georgetown in January 2008 and currently serves as Chargé d'Affaires.

A career member of the Foreign Service, Miss Williams joined the U.S. Information Agency in September 1991 and served as a Cultural Affairs Officer and Press Officer/Spokesperson in tours in Paraguay, Kazakhstan and Bosnia-Herzegovina until the merger of USIA with the Department of State in 1999.  As a State Department Officer, she served subsequent tours as Press Officer/Spokesperson in Bosnia and as Public Affairs Officer in Paraguay.  She also served as Deputy Director of Caribbean Affairs in Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining the U.S. government, Miss Williams was editorial director of a national specialty newspaper publishing company based in Kansas City, MO, and prior to that, editor-in-chief of the Springfield Business Journal in Springfield, MO.

Miss Williams graduated from the National War College in Washington, D.C., in 2006 with a Masters degree in National Security Strategy Studies and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Drury University in Springfield, MO.
