U.S. Embassy Humanitarian Unit presents school supplies to Linden children

U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Karen Williams recently presented school supplies and clothing to more than 300 children from single-parent, low-income households in the Wismar/Christianburg community of Linden. The Embassy’s Military Liaison Office/ Guyana Humanitarian Assistance Program (MLO/HAP) sponsored this social outreach initiative, in collaboration with Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council (Region 10), Mr. Mortimer Mingo.

The MLO/HAP team was supported by members of the local chapter of Women’s Aglow International, a multi-denominational organization of Christian women.  This small but active group of community-minded women – Claudette Solomon, Joy O’Jon, Coretta Benjamin, and Florine Dalgetty – were eager to provide assistance to families in need, and had identified the 300 children to whom the donations were made.  The presentation exercise was organized by the women’s group.
