Laboratory Week
Laboratory professionals receive training
In its observance of National Laboratory Week, and under the theme “Laboratory Professionals Get Results,” the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with the Ministry of Health recently provided training to twenty laboratory staff from across the regions of Guyana in Laboratory Operations and Laboratory Management.
The Laboratory Operations training provided all laboratorians trained with tools such as checklists, job aids and procedures required to perform laboratory testing to a high standard and to meet professional goals for supportive patient care through laboratory services. The Laboratory Management training focused on providing senior laboratorians with training in the areas of human resources management, customer service, financial management and laboratory process management.
The trainings were held at the National Public Health Reference Laboratory (NPHRL), GPHC Compound, Thomas and New Market Streets, Georgetown, and included laboratory staff from Bartica, West Demerara, Suddie, Linden, New Amsterdam, and Georgetown. The goal of this activity was to enhance the bench work and supervisory skills of medical technologists and managers to ensure the delivery of high quality laboratory services. The training was conducted by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
