US$33,000 in building materials donated to Habitat Guyana

On Friday, December 12, 2008, US Ambassador to Guyana John M. Jones handed over a quantity of building materials to Habitat for Humanity Guyana, at the Embassy’s warehouse, Main and Bentick Streets.  Receiving the donation on behalf of Habitat was Chairman of the Board, Alex Graham. US Embassy Public Affairs Officer, Rolf Olson, and Habitat’s National Director, Roger Rogers, were also in attendance at the presentation.

Graham assured the Ambassador that the gift was timely and that the materials will contribute significantly to the housing organization’s goal of providing simple, decent homes for families in the low income bracket.

The donation, valued at more than US$33,000, included plumbing, electrical and construction materials that remained from the USS Kearsarge humanitarian mission to Guyana. The USS Kearsarge was in Guyana during the period November 9 to 22.
